Averill Woods Spring Workday - May 22, 2010
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for a successful workday: Bill Kingsbury, Bill Fude, Ann Wesley, Kalman Hauk, Issie Scott, Fred Chapman, Melissa Quon Huber and our enthusiastic young folks Storm, Spirit, Extreme, and Kendrick!
Thank you Ms. Henry for coming in to the school on her day off to help us get our equipment!
Thank you to Lansing Parks and Recreation and Forestry for the two GIANT piles of wood chips and use of tools!!! We made an enormous dent in the piles and will continue to put them in the woods over the coming weeks. We were able to put wood chips down in many areas of the trails where no chips had been placed before.
Thank you Ann Wesley for the photos! The trillium were done blooming but we got to see lots of amazingly large Jack-in-the-Pulpit, wild roses, wild raspberries, and an interesting slug.

What's growing in the woods in the late spring?
Here are some photos by Ann Wesley, documenting the different plants in bloom during the work day.
Averill Elementary School Students Continued the Efforts....
After the neighborhood work day some of the students and teachers participated in an outdoor education day before school ended. They worked very hard to carry buckets of mulch to cover the trails. They exuded such pride and ownership knowing they were being good caretakers of their woods.
