School and Community Garden at Averill Elementary School
2nd Year of Pilot Project Completed
The summer of 2011 marked our second year of a shared community and school garden area at Averill Elementary School.
The area had garden plots for use by the school and by Averill Woods residents. The garden plots are located on the west side of elementary school between building and sidewalk. | Guidelines and InformationOrganic Guidelines: No synthetic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers are permitted in the gardens for the safety of the school children. The seeds and plants do not have to be specifically designated organic, although we can help you locate these items from local suppliers if you wish.
Support: We have several gardeners experienced in organic gardening who can provide help and support if you are new to organic gardening or gardening in general. It's really not that hard! Cost: The garden spots are free. However, gardeners must provide all their own materials and supplies (e.g., seeds, plants, straw mulch if desired, fencing if desired, lumber if you want raised beds, etc.) and you will need to water your own area. Many plants and seeds are available for free through the Greater Lansing Food Bank Garden Resource Center. |
