Next Meeting: Thursday, July 26, 2007, 7:00 p.m. Averill Elementary School. We will be OUTDOORS under the overhang, so please bring lawnchairs. In case of inclement weather, we'll post an alternate location on the front door.

New park playground equipmpent has been ordered! Thank you to everyone for your input in the park planning process. We expect the equipment to be installed by the end of the summer.
The new playground will have equipment designed for 2 to 12 year old children. It includes a playstructure with slides and climbers, a swing set with 2 tot swings and 2 belt swings, and a unique "wave motion" teeter totter that accomodates up to 20 people of all ages.
It's going to be colorful!!! We received 175 votes on the color choice, with an overwhelming majority (66%) prefering the "tropical" color choice. Across gender and age groups, this more contemporary color palette was highly preferred over the primary colors or the earth tones. The subcommittee worked hard to select colors to match the winning color scheme. However, there were some color constraints to deal with, because portions of the equipment were available in only a few colors. So with that in mind the subcommittee worked hard to find a pleasing solution.
Crime prevention: Neighbors have noted that the typical summer problem behaviors at the school playground are more serious this year and involve people from outside of the neighborhood. We met with police officers, school, and park staff to curtail this problem immediately.
Please keep your ears and eyes open and report any concerns to the Lansing Police Department. They want us to report anything we think is unusual as soon as we observe it so they can assess the situation as promptly as possible. LPD has said that too many people hesitate to call because they don't think it is serious enough. But these small tips from neighbors often provide very valuable information about patterns of activity! Please report any concerns or unusual activities PROMPTLY at 483-4600. This is the general information line and does not tie up the 911 line. Call 911 if you have emergency concerns.
Need babysitting or yardwork? Visit our youth page here to locate neighborhood youth willing to do this kind of work. Youth are also welcome to post their availability here as well!
