This is something that our State Representative Andy Schor posted on his Facebook page:

Neighbors, wanted to alert you that today I introduced a bill (HB 4580) that will allow cities to revoke personal property tax abatements for businesses that don’t comply with contractual obligations. Niowave received one of these abatements, and the City cannot threaten to revoke it because the law doesn’t allow it. Other local abatements have revocation provisions, but this one does not. So I am seeking to rectify that and ensure that the city and our residents have the leverage needed to ensure that any business that receives this abatement will actually come through on their end of the deal.
Here his his response to the question of how to help support this bill:
It will likely go to the Tax Policy committee. Rep Farrington is the Chair and will decide when/if this gets taken up. He is from the Utica area in Macomb. We can get you contact info for him, and you can contact friends in Macomb to advocate for this. I will let you know if there is a hearing so you can testify. Thanks!
You can follow the progress of this bill at the Michigan Legislature HB 4580.
Stay tuned!
