Meteorologists have predicted several more days of significant cold and subzero wind chill temperatures. The Michigan State University Physician’s Office asks that you remember these simple things to protect your health in this very cold weather:

- If outside, limit your time outside and layer your clothing. Cover your mouth and nose with a scarf or mask to warm the air you breathe.
- Avoid having bare skin exposed for more than 5 to 10 minutes. Frostbite can begin to occur in temperatures we are having within 10 to 15 minutes. A frostbite calculator is available here.
- Stay hydrated with fluids such as cocoa, warm cider, water; more fluids are needed in cold weather.
- Limit alcohol and caffeine, as they are dehydrating.
- Watch out for friends and others. Help them if they need help, or call for help.
