We recognize that there ways in which our response to this storm could have been better on many levels.
There is more that we could have done as individuals, a neighborhood, and a community.
We are taking steps to make sure we have an infrastructure for communication and assisting our neighbors in future crises.
However, we have many questions and concerns that relate to the response of our city, the emergency response team, and Board of Water and light in this storm, noting that some of our fellow residents are still without power in day 10 of this storm.
We presented the questions to the Lansing City Council for the special meeting held on Monday, December 30, 2013.
Margaret Kingsbury spoke at the meeting and presented the materials that were drafted by our leadership team members Margaret Kingsbury, Michelle Napier-Dunnings, Jason Wilkes, Sandy Barringer, Rich Bailhe, Ken Jones, and Melissa Quon Huber.
Council member A'Lynne Boles recognized the neighborhood association for the good ideas presented and expressed appreciation for our awareness of good communication strategies.
Our questions centered around the following key areas:
(A) Emergency Plan (Questions for City Emergency Management)
(B) Emergency Declaration and Emergency Response (Questions for City Administration)
(C) Emergency Communications (Questions for Both)
(D) Lansing Board of Water & Light Communications and Capacity (Questions for BWL)
