Wildlife Problems
WILDLIFE NUISANCES TO PROPERTY --> CALL PEST CONTROL COMPANY.
Wild animals come under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. When wild animals are creating a pest situation such as hanging around your property, digging or living around your deck and outbuildings or getting into your attic and chimney, you will need to contact a wildlife removal / pest control company. There are several listed in the yellow pages under "Pest Control". See also the List of Wildlife Damage and Nuisance Control Permitees from Michigan Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Division. Contact the Department of Natural Resources to make sure the list is current.
HAZARDOUS CONTACT WITH WILDLIFE --> CALL INGHAM COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL DURING WORKING HOURS.
If you have a wildlife situation which has a citizen in peril you may contact the Ingham County Animal Control Department 676-8370 during working hours for an assessment of the situation. If we determine there is an immediate health and safety crisis, an officer will be dispatched.
CONTACT WITH BAT --> CALL INGHAM COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT.
If you had contact with a bat you should start by calling the Ingham County Health Department at 887-4308.

The Ingham County Animal Control Department is in charge of domestic animals such as pets and livestock and poultry.
LOOSE PET --> CALL INGHAM COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL DURING WORKING HOURS.
If there is a loose animal during the work hours call the Ingham County Animal Control Department at 676-8370 to report the problem. Provide a description of the animal and the time and location of where animal was seen.
LOOSE PET AFTER HOURS --> DO NOT CALL POLICE UNLESS THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE THREAT OF HARM.
If there is a loose animal that is not posing an immediate threat of harm to an individual, record the information (description of animal, time and location of where animal was seen) and call Ingham County Animal Control Department 676-8370 during their work hours.
Due to budget restraints, Lansing Police Department is no longer able to respond to calls regarding loose animals unless someone is in danger. If an animal is trying to attack or harm someone then call the 9-1-1 operator.
